What are the different types of beds?
The type of bed you need will depend on many different factors. If you’re on a tight budget you might decide to look for lower cost options rather than finding one that you fall in love with. You’ll also need to consider your décor style, room requirements and space in the bedroom. If you need more information on the types of beds we stock, have a read of our bed buying guide, or for a brief overview, take a look below.
Storage Beds – Most bedrooms need as much extra storage space as they can get. The best storage beds which offer the most extra space are undoubtedly ottoman styles. In these beds, the mattress lifts up from the bottom or the side revealing a useful area beneath for you to store whatever you like. Using the space between the mattress and the floor, which is usually neglected, means you can fit plenty of things inside, freeing up valuable cupboard space elsewhere. Divan beds, on the other hand, have drawers underneath for storage. For more information on storage beds, have a read of our storage bed buying guide.
TV & Tech Beds – If you’re looking for a completely modern bed and love your gadgets, a TV bed will be perfect for you. These have a TV in the foot-end which is raised and lowered using a remote control. Some of these TV beds come with additional storage too. Other tech bed options include sound system beds and smart beds.
Kids Beds – There’s nothing quite like kids beds for inspiring a love for sleep and giving your little one some independence. Expect everything from fun and safe toddler beds through to high sleepers for teens and bunk beds for growing families.
And remember, kids bedrooms usually need even more storage space than adults’ due to the number of toys and other things they have, which is why there are loads of space saving beds for kids available. Cabin beds are ideal for kid’s rooms where space is at a premium as they incorporate drawers, shelves and cupboards beneath the bed. This means you’ll keep your precious floor space without having to compromise on storage. High and mid sleepers are also a good choice for saving space in a kid’s room. If you’re unsure which would be best, take a look at our guide on how to choose between a high and mid sleeper.
Sofa Beds – Perfect for those lacking in space or looking to kit out a dual-purpose, open-plan space, sofa beds offer a range of benefits. Clearly, their ability to save space and double up as both seating area and bed is their greatest asset but they offer more too. Expect those with hidden storage alongside sophisticated styles that wouldn’t look out place in a boutique hotel bar. And remember, this type of bed works perfectly as guest beds, blending practicality and style in one all-purpose design. Sofa beds come in various sizes, from chair beds through to three seaters. So whatever space you have, there is a sofa bed to fit. If you’re unsure which sofa bed is right for you, have a look at our guide on choosing your sofa bed.
Adjustable Beds – Adjustable beds are great for those with mobility issues or disabilities. These beds are controlled by a set of buttons which bring the mattress up or down, so you don’t have to struggle to pull yourself up.
Sleigh Beds – The ultimate in style, sleigh beds are named for their use of both headboard and footboard. This creates an elegant frame for your bed and mattress, allowing your bed to really own its centrepiece status.
